Key Features
T.38 is real time data transmition that provides reliable fax transmissions over a packetized voice network. The T.38 recommendation has been defined by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and sets forth the method for transmitting traditional T.30 faxes over a packetized voice network. Handling of a fax transmission via T.38 means that the transmission from a traditional fax machine (T.30) is recognized by a voice gateway capable of conversion to a T.38 data stream. The fax transmission is handled, via the T.38 standard, in such a way that network delays and packet losses do not impact the reliability of a fax transmission to the same degree as a fax transmission, over a packet network, without T.38 handling. To properly function in conjunction with traditional T.30 fax machines a T.38 gateway must be in place for both the calling and called party. Voxitas supports both originating and terminating T.38 gateways. |
